John B. Lovis Research Notes on Bethlehem Steel Corporation

Collection Abstract: John B. Lovis (born 1935), spent his career with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He first worked in the Blast Furnace Department at Sparrows Point, Md. In 1963 he was transferred to Bethlehem, Pa., to assist in the design and engineering of the company’s new Burns Harbor Plant in Indiana. Over the next 32 years, he held various positions in Bethlehem’s Corporate Engineering and Planning Departments. Lovis retired as Director, Strategic Planning, in 1995. His book, The Blast Furnaces of Sparrows Point - One Hundred Years of Ironmaking on Chesapeake Bay, was published in 2005. The records consist of materials collected by Lovis for the writing of his book, plus original Bethlehem Steel and steel industry documents from his tenure in the Corporate Planning Department.
