Collection abstract: Philip D. Reed (1899-1989) was president and chief executive officer of General Electric Company from 1940-1942 and 1945-1959. During World War II, Reed was a "dollar-a-year" man serving in the Office of Production Management and later with the U.S. Mission for Economic Affairs. His papers document his government work during the war and his service on public policy organizations including the Business Advisory Council of the Department of Commerce, the Committee on Economic Development, and the International Chamber of Commerce. There is also some personal correspondence.
