Leonard W. Walton Printing and Packaging Collection
Date: 1920-1960
Collection Abstract:Collection of Milprint Company records collected by Leonard W. Walton. Fully two thirds of the collection are printing samples on a full range of media: glassine paper, cardboard, foil, cellophane, and polyethylene. They include such items candy wrappers, cigarette boxes, potato chip and bread bags and bacon boxes. Some are for famous brands like Marlboro, Hebrew National, Memorex, Reese's peanut butter cups, Arnold's bread, and Southern Comfort, while many are for now-vanished local and regional manufacturers. There are at least two examples of the Trans-Vision process. Of particular note are glassine wrappers for military rations in World War II. The remainder of the collection consists of an assortment of company correspondence, photos of officials and company dinners, advertising, and folksy homilies sent by Billy Heller to inspire his sales force. One file describes the company's activities during World War II. There are runs of several employee newsletters and magazines, including the Milprint Communique (1942-45) carrying news of employees serving in the armed forces.
