Carpenter

Job Purpose: 
Performs carpentry duties necessary to construct, repair, and maintain buildings, woodwork, counters, benches, doors, floors, stairs, casings, trim, etc.  

Specific Duties:

•    Perform general carpentry work in the alterations, repair, and maintenance of buildings, doors, floors, windows, ceilings, stairways, cornice and concrete forms.

•    Perform hand and bench work in Carpentry Shop to include operating planers, joiners, drill presses, power saws and other woodworking machinery.

•    Perform rough, finished, and form work including routing using appropriate tools and equipment.

•    Have general roof installation knowledge, specifically to remove and install cedar shake roofs.

•    As needed, fabricate from scratch a variety of furniture and architectural structures: shutters, grape arbor, fences, gazebos, planters, and benches, for example.

•    Repair tools, bandsaws, joiner blades and rip saw blades.

•    Maintain inventory; help select and purchase tools and materials necessary to accomplish carpentry assignments.

•    Clean building gutters as part of a regular scheduled program.

•    As necessary, assist with storm clean-up, snow removal and setting up special events.

•    Operate trucks and other equipment.

•    Other duties as assigned by Buildings Trades Supervisor.

•    Must be willing to work two or more weekend special events annually.

Minimum Experience and Required Skills:
Valid driver’s license with at least 3 year’s relevant work experience. Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, rough sketches, and oral instructions. Working knowledge of hand/power tools, various woods, and other materials used in general carpentry.  Excellent physical condition, dexterity, ability to lift heavy objects and climb 24-foot ladder.  Ability to communicate with and direct other staff members assisting with carpentry-based projects.
