DuPont Company Lavoisier Library Processing Project 2019 Internship

The Project
DuPont divested itself of Nylon, Lycra, and Polyester, so trade literature concerning these products were deemed of no further use at the DuPont Company's Lavoisier Library.  Published collections concerning these products were therefore gifted to Hagley Library. Included in the collection are various publications such as books, trade catalogs, journals, magazines, annual reports, brochures and pamphlets. The publications in the DuPont Company Lavoisier Library Collection were delivered randomly to Hagley Library over a period of years and in no discernible state of organization.

The Internship
The library has produced a box inventory on Excel that details the holdings within 57 total cartons. The next stage of this project involves the intern using that inventory to physically organize and rearrange the publications into an intelligible order. The inventory would also need to be kept current, tracking the reorganization effort. Then decisions can be made to prioritize cataloging, based on input and recommendations of the intern. With time permitting, the intern can then learn our cataloging process, establishing greater intellectual control through online records, and employing best practices for long-term archival storage.

The intern should, at a minimum, have experience using special collections or archives. Experience or training in library assistance or collections processing is preferred.

This internship in the library at Hagley entails 320 hours of service, with start and end dates set by mutual agreement. The rate is $15 per hour. Applications will be reviewed starting April 1, 2019, until the internship is filled. Hagley Museum and Library is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women, minorities, people with disabilities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
