Groundskeeper

Job Purpose:

Performs a variety of moderate to heavy manual tasks associated with routine grounds maintenance activities on Hagley's historic site. General labor tasks include mowing and watering lawns, weeding, raking, pruning, picking up rubbish, clearing snow, and moving objects. May assist with special events (e.g. directional parking on property). Duties performed under direct supervision of the Supervisor, Grounds and Arboriculture.

 

Specific Duties:

  • General maintenance of grounds including mowing lawn, trim grass and hedges, water lawns, trees and flowers; rake, weed beds and edge lawns; prune and cultivate shrubbery and flowers.
  • Assist with general clean-up operations including snow removal, removal of leaves and other debris from grounds; clean sidewalks, parking lots, gutters and catch basins.
  • Clean-up operations after a storm may require weekend or evening hours.
  • Operates small mechanical equipment used for ground maintenance and reports broken tools in need of maintenance.
  • Perform manual tasks of moderate to heavy nature as designated by the Supervisor, Grounds and Arboriculture.
  • As requested, assist with Special Events activities including set-up, parking, take-down, transport equipment, clean-up, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Grounds and Arboriculture.

 

Minimum Experience and Required Skills:

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance as well as work outside in various weather conditions. Basic knowledge of ground maintenance and hand tools/materials used in grounds work. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Occasional evening or weekend for Special Event or clean-up operations may be required. Must have a valid driver’s license.

 

Schedule:

This is a full-time position at thirty-five (35) hours per week. The normal schedule is Monday – Friday, 7am – 3pm. Occasional nights and weekends may be required to support events.

 

Compensation:

$16.40 - $19.78 an hour, commensurate with experience.
