Job Purpose:
This position will assist the Grounds and Arboriculture department with various routine maintenance and general labor operations including but not limited to mowing and watering lawns, weeding, raking, pruning, picking up rubbish, and moving objects. Assist with special events activities (e.g., parking direction, setting up tables and chairs and take-down). Duties are performed under direct supervision of Supervisor, Grounds and Arboriculture. The duration of this role is expected to last 6 months.
Specific Duties:
• General maintenance of grounds including but not limited to mowing lawns, trimming grass and hedges, watering, raking weed beds, and edging lawns.
• Assist with general operations including removal of leaves, sticks, and other debris from grounds. Clean sidewalks, parking lots, gutters, and catch basins. Clean-up operations after inclement weather may require weekend or evening hours.
• Operate small and large mechanical equipment used for grounds maintenance/general labor operations such as push and riding mowers, tillers, string trimmers, and blowers.
• Responsible for maintaining clean and organized work areas and performing job duties in a manner which complies with OSHA and Hagley safety guidelines.
• Assist with Special Events activities including set-up, parking, take-down, transporting equipment, clean-up, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Grounds and Arboriculture.
Minimum Experience and Required Skills:
High School diploma/ GED equivalent. General knowledge of basic grounds maintenance, hand tools, materials is preferred. Must be able to sustain moderate to heavy physical exertion with full range of body motion for extended periods of time, including lifting up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must be willing to work on occasional evening or weekend for Special Event or clean-up operations. Valid driver’s license is required.
