Hagley Joins the National #Giving Tuesday Movement to Encourage Spending With a Purpose
Wilmington, Delaware—December 2, 2014—Hagley has joined #GivingTuesday, a first of its kind effort that celebrates and provides incentives for charitable giving. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, Hagley will attempt to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their communities by donating to the Hagley Annual Fund. Taking place December 2, 2014—the Tuesday after Thanksgiving—#GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to charitable giving.
To thank the community for its support, Hagley will, in turn, offer free admission to the museum from January 17 through March 13, 2015. Events included in this free admission include Science Saturday and Victorine’s Valentine’s Day.
2014 Hagley Annual Fund
The 2014 Hagley Annual Fund supports education and learning experiences offered at Hagley, including school tours, Author Talks, walking tours, and other engaging activities. These events and programs enable innovation and discovery as a part of everyday life at Hagley, and look to provide opportunities to explore and learn.
“From small children engaging the world around them for the first time, to scholars on the cutting edge of their fields, Hagley’s programs and collections expand horizons,” said Jill MacKenzie, Hagley’s director of external affairs and development.
This year is the final year of the Hagley Annual Fund challenge in which the Nor’ Easter Foundation will match, up to $100,000, every new dollar that is donated. On December 2, friends and members of Hagley are encouraged to participate in #GivingTuesday by helping Hagley expand educational opportunities. Donations may be made at www.hagley.org or through a check made payable to Hagley Museum and Library. Any questions about donations may be directed to Jill MacKenzie at 302-658-2400, ext. 302, firstname.lastname@example.org.
“#GivingTuesday is a counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not just consumerism,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give our children, loved ones, friends and neighbors is the commitment to work together to help build a better world.”
