Hagley’s Annual Car Show Celebrates Barn Finds and Un-restored Originals

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

Wilmington, Delaware – September 2016 – Take a step back in time as the Hagley Car Show returns on Sunday, September 18, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The show will feature more than 500 antique and restored cars, trucks, and motorcycles that date from the early 1900s through the 1980s. The Special Feature this year is “Barn Finds and Un-restored Originals,” which will showcase antique cars that have remained virtually untouched over the years. Visitors will enjoy vehicle parades, a vintage jukebox display, video simulators, pedal car racing, and a festival food court. The Car Show will take place in the area surrounding the first du Pont home, garden, and barn.

Barn finds are vehicles that were kept in long-term storage and for the most part have been left untouched over the years. Often these were found in barns, and many were uncovered and subjected to weather and debris of all kinds – the rustier and dirtier the better! The ultimate find would be a vehicle that has been left untouched since it was new and one that includes all original equipment.

Un-restored originals are cars that have had no modifications made to them that would differ from what was available from the manufacturer. They have often been cleaned and polished and given new parts such as tires and batteries, but all replacement parts must match the original equipment.

“There’s nothing more exciting than seeing an antique car that has essentially remained untouched over the years. It gives us a glimpse into the way these cars were when they rolled off the assembly line,” says John McCoy, event chairman and Hagley’s curator of mechanical exhibitions.  “The Hagley Car show offers our visitors a great opportunity to explore these unique and priceless pieces of history.”

Car enthusiasts who are interested in participating in Hagley’s Car Show can register at www.hagley.org. Early registration closes on July 31, 2016. Late registration runs from August 1 to 22, or when the show field is full, whichever comes first. Late registration requires an additional fee of $10 per vehicle. There is no registration fee for pre-1920 vehicles. The Hagley Car Show welcomes all vehicles through 1991, and general field cars do not have to be part of the feature display.
