Wawa, Inc. is privately owned by descendants of George Wood and company employees who participate in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
Howard Stoeckel (b. 1945) became Chief Executive Officer of Wawa, Inc. in 2004. He was the first person outside of the Wood family to hold the position.
Many members of the Wood family retain key management positions including Dick Wood, who serves as Chairman of the Board. As of March 2009, Wawa, Inc. operates 570 stores and employs over 17,500 people.
