Volunteers
play an integral part in fulfilling the mission of Hagley. They provide
support, expertise, time, experience, ideas, and energy. This enables projects
and tasks to be accomplished that would not be possible without the volunteers.
Volunteers work side-by-side with staff and learn from them, the collections,
and their experiences at Hagley. They learn about Hagley, the regional area,
and life in the 1800s.
Opportunities
abound for all ages and interests. Scheduling is flexible and varies –
from a one-time three-hour assignment to three all-day assignments per month.
Training, tours of Hagley, and study materials are provided as needed for each
volunteer position.
Are you a good storyteller?
Do you enjoy meeting and talking to interesting people from around the world? Volunteer as a historical interpreter at Hagley Museum and Library. Share your passion for history and provide visitors with a memorable experience.
Volunteer historical interpreters in the restored nineteenth-century Machine Shop demonstrate metal working tools operated by belts and pulleys to visitors. They also relate stories about the people working in the machine shop and their jobs.
Volunteer historical interpreters in the restored foreman’s home and schoolhouse share stories about the life of people living near and working at the mills. They lead visitors in activities such as writing with a quill pen and washing clothes the nineteenth-century way.
Training begins April 8th!
