In 1968, the Morton Salt Company hired Jam Handy Productions to produce a film promoting the salt industry and its benefits to society. If you have ever wondered about the many uses and varieties of salt, this is the film for you:

An article in Business Screen Magazine wrote this under the headline “Filming the Story of...Salt - A Vital Commodity”:

“A wide range of moods prevail in ‘A Grain of Salt.’ Far from the usual step-by-step presentation of industrial operations, the film successfully combines light humor and awesome pictorial effect to tell the story of salt.” [The full article is available in the Business Screen Magazines archives via digital.hagley.org]

This film is from the Carol Litchfield Collection on the History of Salt available for research at the Hagley Library. For more information, take a look at the collection finding aid here.
