In preparation for an upcoming refresh of Hagley’s car exhibit, the museum’s curatorial team has been digging deeper into the history of the cars in the collection.

As primary sources of information on new ideas, patents offer inquiring minds an immediate connection with an historic act of discovery.

Throughout his life, Thomas Jefferson continually sought the best and latest equipment for record keeping. This included a fountain pen, at a time when this was a new writing technology. For this pen, he paid $5 (equal to $140 today).
