Summer Camp at Hagley – Week 1
July 13 through July 17 – Monday to Friday – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This week’s themes are:

Life Long Ago (Ages 7-9): Life Long Ago Camp immerses campers into life in a 19th-century black powder factory and workers’ village.  Each day campers explore different activities common during the 1800s, such as gardening, cooking, making toys, dancing, and much more.  Campers also participate in tasks specific to a powder factory like firing off charges of powder, making barrels, and constructing water wheels.  The camp week culminates in a carnival when campers can share what they have learned with their families.

Learning the Trades (Ages 10-12): Before there were makerspaces, early makers were plying their trades. Learning the Trades Camp offers campers a chance to explore many of the different skills and jobs of the 19th century. Campers will become powdermen, stone masons, coopers, farmers, teachers, printers, and more. A fun “jobs fair” at the end of the week will mark the end of the campers’ apprenticeships as they share their new skills with their families.
