On February 1st the Pictorial Collections and Digital Collection Departments at the Hagley Library merged and are now operating as the Audiovisual Collections and Digital Initiatives Department. The change came in response to the retirement of Jon Williams, Curator of Prints and Photographs, at the end of January.
The new department will be led by Kevin Martin, the former Digital Collections Curator, and will include Abby Adams, Digital Archivist, and Laurie Rizzo, Audiovisual Archivist. In addition, the Library will be hiring an Audiovisual Collections Reference Archivist who will handle the ever-increasing number of questions and inquiries from scholars, publishers, and the general public about our AV and digital collections.
In his forty-three years at Hagley, Jon Williams built a world-class collection of photographs, audiotapes, and moving pictures. Jon led the Library into the 21st century as an early adopter and champion of new technologies to enhance access to our collections. The new department will continue this work with the primary goal of increasing use of Hagley’s audiovisual and digital collections. The staff of the AVD Department have been planning this transition since November. We look forward to continuing our excellent services to researchers and providing access to a world class collection on the history of business and industry.
