Price and Phillips Mill

Owner: Benjamin Price, Joseph Phillips
Industry type: Flour mill
Location: Brandywine Village
Active dates: c. 1860-1890

Summary: Benjamin Price, brother of Brandywine miller John Price, partnered with Joseph Phillips to operate a Brandywine Village flour mill from approximately the time of the Civil War until 1890. Price and Phillips, supposedly the last grist millers in Brandywine Village, ran the second mill down from the Brandywine Bridge. In 1890, the city of Wilmington purchased all of the mills in this area on the south side of the Brandywine and used the mill sites as pumping and filtration stations for the city's water supply.
