Summary: Thomas Massey ran a cotton-spinning business located in "Rumford Dawes' old grist mill." It is unknown exactly when Massey first began his operation, though evidence shows it had been established by 1810. The land was sold to E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company on October 1, 1812 and became the site of the powder manufacturing company's Hagley yard.
