Hagley Museum and Library
Technical Services Department
Processing Internship, Summer 2026
The Project and Internship
Hagley Library will hire a Processing Intern to conserve, arrange, and describe the Kozinn and Sons Tailors collection under the supervision of the Head of Technical Services. The intern will enjoy a learning experience in archival work structured around the processing and preservation of archival materials.
Kozinn and Sons were founded in 1913 by Samuel Kozinn. The New York-based tailor began making pants with expanded production in 1929 to include men’s suits. In 1951, the company emerged as an upscale tailor and wholesaler to men’s stores throughout the country. Changes in fashion in the 1960s resulted in an increase in direct customer sales from their shop. They also began creating custom clothes for film and theatre productions. In 2018, Kozinn and Sons merged with Michael Andrews Bespoke. The Kozinn and Sons Tailors collection consists of photographs, archival material, news clippings, publications, and clothing.
Intern duties will include:
- Learning basic archival theory
- Reviewing material conditions for possible preservation attention
- Rehousing and labeling archival materials
- Arranging and describing materials
- Authoring EAD and DACS compliant findings aid(s) using ArchivesSpace
Qualifications
The intern should, at a minimum, have experience using special collections or archives. Experience or training in archival processing and a desire to work in the library or archival field is preferred.
